Puttur is famous for its Sri. Mahalingeshwara temple, Birumala hill a scenic beauty spot and Bendrutheertha a hot water spring. Puttur is a taluk headquarters in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka State of India with a population of about 70,000. Puttur is the second largest town of the Dakshina Kannada District. The Mangalore Hassan railway passes through Puttur taluk and there is a station in the town with the name Kabaka Puttur. People of all religion are living in this town harmoniously and speak mainly Thulu language. Puttur is famous for Kambala, a buffalo race and Cockfight both are ancient sports of Thulunadu.
