The town is interconnected well with roads and Bangalore Mangalore National highway No.75 and Mysore Bantwala state highway passes through this taluk. The roads leading to famous pilgrimage centers like Kukke Subramanya Temple, Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Temple, Thalakavery and BhagamandalaTemples, Syed Madani Durgah of Ullal and Milagres Church Mangalore passes through this place. People go to Madikeri a very famous hill resort from Mangalore by road passing through Puttur town.



The Mangalore Hassan railway passes through Puttur taluk and there is a station in the town with the name Kabaka Puttur. People of all religion are living in this town harmoniously and speak mainly Thulu language. Puttur is famous for Kambala, a buffalo race and Cockfight both are ancient sports of Thulunadu. Thenkuthittu Yakshagana is the world famous folk art of this region. Puttur was the main action area where Koti-Channaya the historical figures of Thulunadu lived in their time. Agriculture is the main occupation of the people here and they grow mainly Areca, Paddy, Coconut, Cocoa and Spices. People also live with trading forest produce, milk and dairy products. Puttur has Campco Chocolate Factory, many beverages and food industry, Cement products industry. It also has Central Cashew research center and Central Areca research center in the vicinity. Puttur has many famous educational institutions including Law, Engineering, Fashion designing, Jewelry designing, Polytechnic, Management studies, Nursing and Job oriented courses along with many degree colleges and high schools with hostel facility. Puttur has one Government Hospital with 100 inpatient beds and 11 Primary health centers across the taluk. Puttur taluk has sixteen private Allopathic and one Ayurveda hospital with bed strength of about 400 beds. About 5 private independent laboratories are functioning in this taluk. The name of the company is Puttur City Hospital Private Limited and this company is promoted by Dr. Bhaskar S Orthopedic surgeon having 20 years of experience of running 25 bedded private nursing home in Puttur along with Dr. G.N. Vittal a senior doctor having worked abroad for 13 years is now running a Scan center at Puttur for the last 20 years.
